Exhibition Curator Intern

The Binghamton University Art Museum seeks Exhibition Curator Interns (2 credit hours; 4-5 hours/week + course time) who will work with the Museum’s Curator of Collections and Exhibitions to design, create, and implement an exhibition to open in the lower galleries in the Fall 2021 semester. The exhibition, "Topographies: Changing Conceptions of the American Landscape," scheduled for Fall 2021, will explore representations of the geography and environment of the USA from the mid-19th through the late 20th century. Organized by Professor Tom McDonough (Art History), who will help guide students in framing the exhibition, it will be composed of thematic selections from the Art Museum's permanent collection, complemented by several outstanding loans from Art Bridges. We encourage applications from all majors.

Supervisor: Claire Kovacs with input from Tom McDonough

Students can expect to gain experience with careers in museums during this opportunity. This position will participate in the CDCI program, meeting weekly with other Museum interns, discussing their work, careers and professionalization in the museum field, and contemporary topics in museums.

Internship credit may be available within a student’s major department. Students should consult with their advisor about suitability of CDCI versus departmental credit for this internship.

Requirements: Junior or senior standing. A cover letter detailing relevant experience and skill sets related to the internship as well as information on how this internship will help the student advance their career goals. A copy of a recent resume with contact information for two references.
